II.                   Team Rules

A.      Practices  NEW POLICY

§         Swimmers are required to attend 4 practices per week*. There are 6 available swim practice sessions per week from which swimmers may meet the practice requirement.

§         *Swimming Out: Swimmers who “swim out” with a club team are required to attend 2 swim practices with the high school team each week, plus the Sunday practice (when scheduled). Club swimmers are required to attend the practice the day before a scheduled meet.

§         In addition to the required swim practices, swimmers are expected to commit to regular weight training and Pilates sessions offered during the season.

§         Excused absences include medical/family emergencies, and religious holidays. If a swimmer does not attend school, they will not be able to attend practice that day. During exam weeks, the practice minimum will be waived.

§         Swimmers must be prepared for each practice on time.

B.      Managing Your Schedule

§         Given the challenges created by our time slot at St. Charles, it is important that you use your time wisely.

§         Schoolwork comes first, however you are expected to manage your time so that you can fulfill your commitment to the team.

§         Nutrition is an important factor in keeping you ready for workouts and healthy throughout the year. Make sure you are eating plenty of protein and carbohydrates throughout your day to maintain your energy.

§         Sleep is an important component as well. Although our schedule is challenging, it is important to try to get to bed at a reasonable hour.  Finishing your homework before practice will go a long way in ensuring you get a good night’s sleep.

C.      Eligibility

§         Students will be expected to comply with Bexley High School eligibility requirements. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

§         Any swimmer concerned about their current or future eligibility should contact one of the coaches. We will attempt to make arrangements to help the swimmer correct the situation in any way we can.

D.      Behavior

§         All swimmers will behave in a manner that complies with the BHS code of conduct at all times. You represent your school, your teammates and your coaches wherever you go. If vandalism occurs at St. Charles or any facility where we compete or practice, the entire team will be suspended for the remainder of the season.  Hazing or any team “traditionsthat are questionable will NOT be tolerated.

            E. Varsity Lettering Requirements

§         Scoring 35 dual meet individual event points

§         Achieve time standard ranking in top two (2) of individual events (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, individual medley)

§         Consideration will be given to perfect attendance, workout performance, leadership, attitude and time improvement for those close to 35 points

F.      Parents/Guardians

§         YOU are a vital link to the success of our program. We ask that you be open in your communication with/about your swimmer. The coaches are very open, friendly people. Please feel free to speak with us before or after practice or via email. We are here to help you and your swimmer the best way we know how.

§         We also need you to help run home meets. In order to run a successful meet we need at least 18 people:

o        14 timers, 2 runners, 2 scorers

o        A representative from each family should plan to work at least one or two home meets. Let’s not have the same people do it over and over!

G.     Injuries

§         During the course of the season, you will go through numerous injury prevention routines (i.e. stretching, dry land, etc). However, there is always the possibility of an injury. Your health is very important to us, therefore injuries must be reported to the coaching staff immediately so that we can start treatment right away. Being injured does not excuse an athlete from practice. You are required to attend or your treatment may take place at this time.
