Wade Brockwell – Head Coach
Coach Brockwell has completed his 7th season at Bexley, 14th overall. He has helped establish consistency in the program, which is considered one of the area’s best programs as well as a perennial champion. He has led the Lions to a league championship four of the last six years as well as two district championships and two elite eight appearances. He led the 2003-04-basketball team to the best record in school history for the second consecutive year with a 14-0 league record and a 24-2 overall record. He brings energy, enthusiasm and vision to the program. He believes that the program is successful because of the overall commitment to hard work and dedication as well as the other members of the coaching staff. Good fundamentals, class and hard nose defense are his trademarks! In his 10 years of coaching Varsity Basketball, he has been named League Coach of the Year - six times, District Coach of Year – 2 times and State Coach of the Year once. He has directed his teams to six district appearances and the best record in school history four different times. At Bexley, his overall record is 114-46 and league record is 70-17.
Terry Kraft – Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Kraft brings to Bexley 13 years of coaching experience including seven years as the Lady Lions assistant. He is mainly responsible for post play, game day management and all administrative duties. He is also in charge of managers and inventory. Coach Kraft works as a liaison between the Jr. High teams and the high school program as well as assists with scouting. He came to Bexley with Coach Brockwell whom he has been with for 10 years and brings a worker’s attitude and a great sense of humor to the program.
Joe_Malone.jpg (343545 bytes)Joe Malone – Assistant Coach
Coach Malone, entering his 8th year at Bexley, provides our basketball players the opportunity to learn from one of the best in central Ohio. He brings 27 years of experience from many different levels and is considered one of the best technicians or teachers of the game on an individual basis. Coach Malone has the ability to break things down for athletes giving them a chance to understand the basic fundamentals easier. He is primarily responsible for shooting form and ball handling skills throughout our program with an emphasis on free throw shooting. He also assists in the preparation of game day management and is in charge of muscle flexibility and strength training.
Jen_Lilly.jpg (257263 bytes)Jenn Lilly – Assistant Coach
Coach Lilly is in her second year at Bexley. She is responsible for post play, scouting and strength training. She brings a ton of energy and toughness to our program. At Capital University she was a four-year starter in both volleyball and basketball from 2002-2006. In basketball, she was the 16th player in the history of Capital’s program to score 1,000 points. She graduated from Capital with a degree in education. Prior to attending Capital, she went to Northridge high school where she participated in three varsity sports. Coach Lilly offers her insight and collegiate experience to our program and has done a tremendous job improving our post play.
Brandy_Caldwell2.jpg (298036 bytes)Brandy Caldwell – Assistant Coach
Coach Caldwell has taken another new position on our staff this year. This year she will be responsible for our guard play, scouting and stats. She is the liaison with the youth program and is also responsible for directing our youth basketball camp. Last year she led our JV program to a 15-5 record. This will be her third year of coaching and brings a lot of energy and excitement to the program. She has plenty of playing experience at both the high school and collegiate level. Coach Caldwell played for Ohio Dominican University (ODU) from 2001-2005. She helped lead ODU to three national tournament appearances including one sweet 16. In college, she led her team in scoring and steals her senior year and was second in assists. She was a standout in high school as well as college. She played at Jackson High School.
Krista_Dortsen.jpg (265107 bytes)Krista Dortsen - Junior Varsity Assistant Coach
Krista is currently a student at The Ohio State University. She is a graduate of Kettering Alter High School and has coached freshman basketball at Alter. She will be helping out our JV program and will also be responsible for scouting a lot of our opponents. This summer, she coached our 8th grade team and did a tremendous job. Krista brings excitement, youth and enthusiasm to our staff and program by seeing things from a different perspective. We are glad to have Krista back again this year.
Donald Dennis.jpg (268053 bytes)Donald Dennis – Junior Varsity Coach
Anthony Penn – 8th grade Coach
Coach Penn will be a new addition to our staff this year. He will be responsible for the development of our 8th graders both on and off the basketball court. This responsibility entails preparing each student athlete for high school basketball by improving their mental attitude, concentration and toughness as well as ensuring that they are fundamentally sound and understand our offensive and defensive concepts. Coach Penn has experience at the Middle School level having been the previous 8th grade coach for 6 years at Gahanna West. He was very successful winning league championships and even going undefeated several times. He is also responsible for organizing the Junior High summer program as well as assisting in the planning of the youth camp for our future Lady Lions. Coach Penn is very critical to our program’s success and because of his excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and experience; we are very happy to have him on board.
Mike Vincent – 7th Grade Coach
Coach Vincent has had three great years of coaching in our program leading his teams to three 10 plus win seasons, an overall 32-17 record and a spot in the league championship game. He brings to Bexley previous coaching experience where he coached the boy's 7th grade basketball team and has been the head varsity baseball coach as well. Mike currently is a fifth grade teacher at Maryland Avenue Elementary in Bexley and is also the Jr. High head baseball coach. He is directly responsible for our 7th grade basketball team; scouting and ensuring that ball handling is a fundamental heavily focused on. He brings a lot of enthusiasm, knowledge and unity to our program. Coach Vincent is responsible for the most critical level in our program and we are extremely excited to have him as a coach.

Captains

Ashley Dennis

Ashley is a 6’0 junior guard and a first time team captain. She is a vital piece to this year’s team as she was our leading scorer and second leading rebounder last year. She has the ability at 6’0 to post you up on the block and go either way with a multitude of moves, take you out on the perimeter and shoot the tri-fecta or get to the rack off the bounce and pull a jumper in your face. Although injured for a majority of last year, she had an exceptional summer and has proven she is ready to go this season. She brings a workers attitude, competitive spirit and a strong desire to excel and improve everyday. She has quickness, can run the floor and can take over a game when needed. Her versatility on the defensive end being able to guard the post, be a lock down defender on the perimeter or just rebound the basketball will help lead us to our goals. She leads by example and will do whatever is needed to win. Last year, she was named 2nd team Mid State League and Central District and during her freshman year was named first team all league.

Monica Gustin

Monica, a 5’8 senior guard will be a four-year Varsity Letter winner and a first year team captain. She understands the game extremely well, has great vision and court awareness. We have a saying that if you’re open and in scoring position, Monica is going to find you. She will run the show this year from the point guard position like she did as a freshman. Her ability to control a game, maintain our team’s composure, call the right play, do the right thing given the time and situation or take over a game is a huge reason for the high expectations we have for this season. She is deadly as a shooter and especially from downtown. She is a career 35% shooter from behind the arc and has set numerous school records for her long distance range. Not only can she drop 6-7 three pointers on you in a game, but she can put the ball on the floor and get into the lane for a smooth jumper or make the perfect pass for a backdoor lay-up. She had an exceptional summer on the floor and demonstrated the passion and heart needed to be successful this season. Her experience and knowledge of being on past championship teams will also play a big part towards our team’s success.

Alex Pammer

Alex, a 5’7 senior guard is a first time captain. She is well respected among her peers and gives all that she has every game. Alex brings the three E’s to our program, energy, excitement and enthusiasm. She has great leadership qualities, is one of the more enjoyable kids on our team and is always smiling and trying to help others out. She is the ultimate team player and competitor. Alex has a killer crossover like no one I have ever seen. It is very low and quick and gets her into the lane whenever she wants. She can shoot the 3 or beat you off the dribble with this killer crossover. Don’t reach for it thinking you got a steal because whoop, she just crossed you up and blew by you. She also had a great summer and became more consistent from long range. Her blue-collar attitude, willingness to do whatever you ask and her understanding of team camaraderie and togetherness will be a big key to our success this year.

2007 Youth Basketball Camp
Our youth camp this year again was a tremendous success. We had a lot of campers who each received a t-shirt, lots of fun, fundamental instruction and the opportunity to get to know the coaching staff and former players. Below are the winners from camp in the Hot Shot, 1 on 1 and Free Throw contests as well as the coaches hustle award winner. Also listed are the campers of the week by grade, the 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 champions and the obstacle course winners.

OUR ATHLETE

Our athlete is spirit drenched in sweat, sacrifice in sneakers, heart pounding at the end of a hard practice, dedication with dirt on her chin and loyalty with a smile on her face.

The athlete is a wondrous being.  You may dislike her personality, but you have to admire her performance.  You may doubt her capabilities, but never her courage.  You may question her efficiency, but never her effort.

She is the epitome of Americanism and sportsmanship.  You might be able to defeat her but you’ll never be able to make her quit!
